Are Car Seat Mirrors Safe?

Parents typically want to use car seat mirrors to make sure that their baby is happy and safe. This is a common desire when you have a rear facing car seat, which means that you cannot get a good look at the baby’s face by just looking back at them. Before purchasing one, however, you might want to figure out whether it is the safe option. You have probably heard a lot of information out there, but you might not have an idea of what to do just yet. For confused or lost parents looking for some help, there is a lot to consider before buying anything.

Like most items you buy for your baby, you might think about quality first. Many parents will wonder about the quality of the item first, especially if you have an idea in your mind about how it works or how it can help you. Thinking about the durability and the reliability of the mirror is important, of course. If you do go forward with buying one, you want to make sure that it will remain attached to the seat with a minimal risk of falling or becoming a projectile in a crash. All brands are different, but there are some trusted options on the market that stay attached at all times.

The quality is not the most important aspect of car seat mirrors, though. When it comes to safety, you have to think about how distracting these mirrors are. You might not think it is a big deal to take a few seconds to look back at the baby, especially since you do that all of the time with the radio or A/C, but there is an increased risk here. It only takes a second of looking away for something to go wrong. It is the same as texting and driving; you are taking your eyes off the road for a few seconds to look elsewhere. This could lead to a crash, possibly even serious or fatal injuries.

People will oftentimes play down the dangers of driving distracted if they feel there is a good reason. The truth is, however, it is always dangerous. If you want to make sure that both you and your baby arrive at your destination without injury, you want to remove as many distractions as possible. You have to keep yourself focused on the road so that you are aware of what is going on around you.
